A 22-Minute Drive from Canton to a Calm, Light-Filled Studio

Award-winning newborn photographer in Baltimore.
From Canton, the drive to my Lutherville studio takes about twenty-two minutes — north on Charles Street or I-83, then a short stretch through Lutherville-Timonium. Most families come up via I-83; it’s the fastest route outside of rush hour.

Yes, that’s farther than some closer-in photographers. But you only do this drive once or twice — and what you get on arrival is a fully-equipped studio set up exclusively for newborn safety and quality:

  • Reserved parking right at the door
  • Warm, controlled temperature for baby
  • A quiet, private room for nursing or settling in
  • Wraps, swaddles, headbands, bonnets, and baskets ready
  • A wardrobe closet for parents and siblings if you’d like to use it

You bring the baby. I handle the rest.

What Canton Families Get with Their Newborn Session

Ana Koska's newborn photography studio in Lutherville-Timonium, 22 minutes north of Canton
Cozy newborn studio near Canton Baltimore.

Newborn sessions at my studio are posed sessions — what some families call classic newborn photography. The studio is set up specifically for newborn safety and quality: warm controlled temperature, professional lighting, soundproofed rooms, and an extensive collection of wraps, props, and baskets. It’s the kind of controlled environment that’s difficult to replicate at home, especially in the first two weeks when your baby is settling into a feeding and sleep rhythm.

Your baby will be photographed:

  • Sleeping in soft wraps and bare-skin curls
  • In parent arms and against parent skin
  • With siblings included (if you’d like)
  • In careful basket and bowl setups

Sessions last two to three hours. That sounds long, but it moves easily because we work around feeds, naps, and any pauses your baby needs.

Why Canton Families Choose Ana Koska Photography

Timeless posed newborn studio portrait.

I’ve been photographing newborns for over fifteen years — longer than any photographer currently advertising newborn work in Canton.

My work has been recognized as the Best Newborn Photographer in Baltimore in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2024 — five separate years.

Featured on Reuters, MSNBC, NBC, Fox, and ABC News.

I mention this not as a list of awards but so Canton families researching photographers can decide quickly: even with a longer drive to the studio, you’re getting work that has been independently recognized at the highest level in Baltimore for nearly a decade. That’s the trade-off — twenty-two minutes of driving for award-level newborn photography you’ll display on your walls for the next fifteen years.

When to Book Your Newborn Session

Sweet sibling moment during a newborn session.

The best time to schedule a newborn session is during your second trimester, before things get hectic. Booking early secures a window in your due-date range.

The actual session happens within the first five to fourteen days after your baby is born — when newborns still curl easily and sleep deeply.

Most Canton families deliver at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center — just minutes east of Canton at 4940 Eastern Avenue, in the same 21224 zip code as your neighborhood. Johns Hopkins Bayview has been recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals (Healthgrades) and holds the Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence. Once your baby is born and you’re back home, call or message me and we schedule the session for whatever day works best in that first two-week window.

Canton Newborn Photography Notes

Canton is one of Baltimore’s historic waterfront neighborhoods — a working-class shipping and industrial hub that’s now home to one of the highest concentrations of young professionals and growing families in the city. Many of the parents I photograph from Canton have moved here for the walkable waterfront life and the close-knit feel around O’Donnell Square and Patterson Park.

What I see again and again with Canton families: people who chose this neighborhood for its character also tend to think carefully about who photographs their baby. The drive north is worth it for the same reasons they invest in their neighborhood — quality and longevity matter. Canton is part of my broader Baltimore newborn photography service across the city.

Canton Family Reviews

“Ana was an absolute pleasure to work with. She replied quickly when I first reached out about scheduling newborn photos, which I really appreciated. On the day of the session, she was incredible with our daughter and kept her calm the entire time, all while capturing the most beautiful images. I can’t recommend Ana enough.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Ana Koska’s studio from Canton, and what’s the best route?

About twenty-two minutes north of Canton via Charles Street or I-83, ending in Lutherville-Timonium. I-83 is the fastest route outside of rush hour. There is reserved parking right at the studio door.

How much does a newborn session cost?

Newborn sessions start at $600 for the MINI package (5 digital images and a gallery of 20 to choose from). The RUBY package is $900 (10 digital images, 50-70 gallery) and DIAMOND is $1,100 (20 digital images, 50-70 gallery). See full pricing and packages on our pricing page.

Why studio-only? Other Canton photographers offer in-home sessions.

Newborn photography in the first two weeks requires a very specific environment: precise warm temperature, professional lighting, sound dampening, dedicated newborn safety setup, and an extensive prop and wrap collection. Replicating all of that in a Canton home is difficult — and most families spend more time preparing the house for an in-home session than the twenty-two-minute drive to my studio would take.

The studio is set up so the only thing you bring is the baby. Everything else — including controlled environment for safety and gallery-quality lighting — is already in place. That’s the trade-off: a slightly longer drive for a setup that consistently produces award-winning newborn photographs.

When should we book if delivering at Johns Hopkins Bayview?

Book during your second trimester to secure your due-date window. Johns Hopkins Bayview is just minutes east of Canton in the same 21224 zip code. The actual newborn session happens within the first five to fourteen days after your baby is born — once you’re settled at home, we schedule for whatever day works best in that window.

Can siblings and family be in the session?

Yes. Sibling and parent portraits are part of the session. We typically do those first while everyone is fresh, then move to baby-only setups. Many Canton families bring older siblings — the studio is calm and child-friendly.
