A 20-Minute Drive from Federal Hill to a Calm, Light-Filled Studio

From Federal Hill, my Lutherville studio takes about twenty minutes north — Light Street up to I-83, then a short stretch through Lutherville-Timonium. Most families take I-83; it’s the most direct route outside of rush hour.
It’s a bit of a drive — and I want to be upfront about that. You only do this drive once or twice — once for the session itself, and once if your family decides to come up for the gallery selection meeting. What you get on arrival is a fully-equipped studio set up exclusively for newborn safety and quality:
- Reserved parking right at the door
- Warm, controlled temperature for baby
- A quiet, private room for nursing or settling in
- Wraps, swaddles, headbands, bonnets, and baskets ready
- A wardrobe closet for parents and siblings if you’d like to use it
You bring the baby. I handle the rest.
What Federal Hill Families Get with Their Newborn Session

Newborn sessions at my studio are posed sessions — what some families call classic newborn photography. The studio is set up specifically for newborn safety and quality: warm controlled temperature, professional lighting, soundproofed rooms, and an extensive collection of wraps, props, and baskets — a fully-equipped environment that consistently produces gallery-grade results.
Your baby will be photographed:
- Sleeping in soft wraps and bare-skin curls
- In parent arms and against parent skin
- With siblings included (if you’d like)
- In careful basket and bowl setups
Sessions last two to three hours. That sounds long, but it moves easily because we work around feeds, naps, and any pauses your baby needs.
Why Federal Hill Families Choose Ana Koska Photography

I’ve been photographing newborns for over fifteen years — making this my full-time, specialized focus longer than most photographers currently working in the Federal Hill area.
My work has been recognized as the Best Newborn Photographer in Baltimore in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2024 — five separate years of independent recognition voted by Baltimore Magazine readers and editors. Federal Hill is Baltimore — these are the awards directly relevant to families in your neighborhood.
Featured on Reuters, MSNBC, NBC, Fox, and ABC News.
Federal Hill families researching newborn photographers are looking for someone with consistent, recognized, gallery-quality work — and the experience to handle every baby with the same calm, careful approach regardless of how the session unfolds. That’s what fifteen years of newborn specialization and five Best of Baltimore awards represent.
For Federal Hill families considering the drive, here’s what’s included. Newborn sessions start at $600 for the MINI package (5 digital images and a gallery of 20). The RUBY package is $900 (10 digital images, 50-70 gallery), and DIAMOND is $1,100 (20 digital images, 50-70 gallery). Whichever package you choose, the session itself is a half-day investment — and the gallery is what stays on your walls for the next fifteen years.
When to Book Your Newborn Session

The best time to schedule a newborn session is during your second trimester, before things get hectic. Booking early secures a window in your due-date range.
The actual session happens within the first five to fourteen days after your baby is born — when newborns still curl easily and sleep deeply.
Federal Hill families typically deliver at one of three downtown hospitals. Mercy Medical Center (345 St. Paul Street) is home to the Weinberg Center for Women’s Health & Medicine — long-recognized as one of Baltimore’s leading destinations for women’s care. University of Maryland Medical Center (22 S Greene Street) brings major academic medical center resources just a few minutes from Federal Hill. And MedStar Harbor Hospital (3001 S Hanover Street) is the closest geographically — just minutes south. Wherever you deliver, once you’re settled at home, call or message me and we schedule the session for whatever day works best in that first two-week window.
Federal Hill Newborn Photography Notes

Federal Hill is one of Baltimore’s most distinctive neighborhoods — a historic waterfront south of the Inner Harbor, home to row houses, walkable streets, and one of the best city views in Baltimore from Federal Hill Park. It’s a neighborhood that has drawn generations of Baltimoreans who care about character and community — and increasingly, young families investing in long-term roots.
Many of the parents I photograph from Federal Hill are professionals balancing demanding careers with the slower, more intentional pace of new parenthood — people who chose this neighborhood for the same reasons they choose carefully who photographs their baby. Whatever your story — first child, second, or third — the approach is the same: a calm pace, careful safety, and a gallery you’ll keep for a lifetime. Federal Hill is part of my broader Baltimore newborn photography service across the city.
Federal Hill Family Reviews
“Ana was wonderful and made our outdoor winter photoshoot warm and friendly. Our pictures turned out beautiful!”

★★★★★
“I went to Ana to have a maternity photo shoot and a newborn photo shoot. She ended up photographing the entire family at the newborn shoot. All 6 of us. It was a lot of work, but she was a champion. Endless patience and persistence. It wasn’t easy to get everyone looking at the camera and standing up straight. We were very happy with the results of both photo shoots. Ana is such a joy to work with.”
